A Dhaka court today placed former Comilla-8 lawmaker Nasimul Alam Chowdhury on a three-day remand in connection with the murder of Md Shahjahan during the student-led protests in July-August 2024.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sanaullah passed the order as police produced Nasimul, before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand in the case.
Nasimul, also the vice-president of Comilla district Awami League, was arrested on December 30, 2024, from Banani’s Helmet Tower.
The court’s ruling came after police sought a seven-day remand. Md Shahjahan was fatally shot while participating in a peaceful rally of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at Mohakhali Flyover on July 19.
His mother, Sazeda Begum, filed a case on December 18, naming 97 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, over the incident.
Shahjahan died from his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital four days after the attack, which was allegedly carried out by Awami League cadres.
