A Dhaka court today (Jan 8) placed Nazrul Islam Kabiraj, vice-president of Awami Jubo League's Dhaka South City Ward-56, on a three-day remand in a case filed over the killing of Md Ali during the July-August student-led mass uprising.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman issued the order after police produced Kabiraj before the court, requesting a seven-day remand.
Kabiraj was apprehended by locals on January 1 and handed over to the police. The case, filed with Lalbagh Police Station on December 30, alleges that Md Ali was shot by police and Awami League cadres during an anti-discrimination rally in the Azimpur Colony area on July 19.
Ali succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
