Corruption behind various movements, including Aug 5: ACC Chairman

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen has said that corruption can be significantly reduced, if those working at the ACC remain free from the offenses.

"Corruption existed in the past and will persist in the future. However, if we establish a society based on justice and fairness, we can minimize it to a great extent. Our main goal is to build a fair society, which requires the goodwill of all stakeholders. With collective goodwill, corruption can be substantially reduced," he said.

Addressing the root causes of various movements, including those until August 5 and at different times, he pointed to injustice in society.

"When we examine the reasons behind each instance of injustice, we find corruption at its core," he added.

Dr. Momen made these remarks on Wednesday (January 29) during a public hearing organized by the ACC at Comilla Shilpakala Academy.

During the hearing, ACC Commissioner (Investigation) Mian Muhammad Ali Akbar Azizi criticized prepaid meters, calling them a "scam."

He said, "It’s not right to slaughter a chicken twice! I have fallen victim to this."

Before the hearing, the ACC set up complaint booths across the city, receiving 121 complaints. Of these, 40 were selected for the hearing.

At the event, victims voiced grievances against various government departments in Comilla.
