A Dhaka court today granted the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) permission to interrogate former Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) chief Masud Biswas at the jail gate for one day.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order after holding hearing on a plea of the ACC to place Masud on a seven-day remand. Masud, who was detained by the ACC on January 17 in Mirpur, was sent to jail on January 18.
The ACC filed a case against Biswas on January 2, accusing him of amassing illegal wealth amounting to Tk 1.87 crore. The commission alleges that Masud accumulated assets beyond his known sources of income during his tenure as head of the BFIU, a key department under Bangladesh Bank responsible for investigating financial crimes.
Masud, who had been serving as an executive director at Bangladesh Bank, was removed from his position as head of the BFIU on August 5, following the corruption allegations. The ACC's investigation into his financial dealings is ongoing, with today's court ruling allowing them to continue their inquiry.
The court's approval to question Biswas at the jail gate for one day marks a critical step in the investigation, as the ACC works to uncover further details of his alleged involvement in financial misconduct. The case highlights ongoing efforts to tackle corruption in Bangladesh’s banking and financial sectors.
