The Financial Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has seized assets valued at around Tk 250 crore belonging to Salman F. Rahman, a former adviser to the ousted Prime Minister, and his associates.
Salman, who owns Beximco Group, Apollo Apparels Limited, and Kanchpur Apparels Limited, is accused of laundering money through 21 trade agreements with companies linked to his son, Ahmed Shahriar Rahman.
The money laundering scheme, which occurred between 2020 and 2024, involved the export of goods worth over 260 million US dollars under the guise of foreign trade. The goods were exported to institutions tied to their interests in Sharjah, UAE.
As part of the investigation, the CID has attached properties including a substantial landholding in Dohar Thana, Dhaka, and luxurious flats in Gulshan, valued at Tk 250 crore. This follows 17 previous cases filed against Rahman and his associates for laundering $83 million abroad.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to probe the alleged money laundering activities.
