Gov’t cancels appointments of six new PSC members

The government has revoked the appointments of six newly designated members of the Public Service Commission (PSC).

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification in this regard on Monday (Jan 13), stating that the decision was made upon President's approval.

According to the notification, the appointments of the six individuals as PSC members have been annulled as they had not yet taken their oaths.

The members are Dr. Shahnaz Sarker, Professor of Agricultural Botany at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University; former Additional Inspector General of Police Md. Munir Hossain; Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. A.F. Jaglul Ahmed; former Director General of BIAM Foundation Dr. Md. Mizanul Rahman; former Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Shabbir Ahmad Chowdhury; and former Director of the National Institute of Kidney Diseases and Urology Professor Dr. Syeda Shahina Sobhan.

The six individuals were appointed on January 2 through a government notification.

However, allegations of ties to the Awami League surfaced, leading to protests by a group of students in front of the PSC building.
