Toby Cadman, a UK lawyer and advisor to the Special Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in Bangladesh, expressed hope that India would honor Bangladesh's judicial process by extraditing former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina if she were convicted.

After a meeting with Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam and members of the ICT's investigating team, Cadman stated, "India is a democratic country and they are respectful to law. So, if Sheikh Hasina is convicted, India will send Sheikh Hasina back to the country respecting the judicial system of Bangladesh."

However, he was cautious about speculating on India's actions, given the strong ties between Bangladesh and India. "I do not want to make an advance prediction on what decision India will take regarding Hasina," Cadman added.

Cadman emphasized the importance of political neutrality, stating that there should be no interference in the work of the prosecutor's team. He also noted that he has received support from several international bodies, including the United Nations, the UK Government, the US Government, and the European Union, all of whom are hopeful that the trial will uphold the rule of law in Bangladesh.

As a legal advisor, Cadman highlighted his role in ensuring the trial adheres to international standards and a transparent process. "Whether Sheikh Hasina will be sentenced to death or released is a matter for the court," he said.

Cadman had visited Bangladesh following the fall of the Awami League-led government after a mass uprising and met with Chief Adviser Dr. Yunus on September 2. His statements underline the international attention and the legal complexities surrounding the trial of Sheikh Hasina.
