The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast that a mild heat wave sweeping over various parts of the country, including the capital, will persist for the next 24 hours starting from this morning (March 17).
“A mild heat wave is affecting Dhaka, Faridpur, Manikganj, Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj, Rangamati, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jashore, Chuadanga, and Patuakhali districts, and it may continue,” the BMD said in its 9:00 am forecast.
The department noted that a trough of low pressure lies over West Bengal and its surrounding areas, while a seasonal low is positioned over the South Bay.
Rain, thundershowers, or lightning flashes accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds are likely in isolated areas of Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, and Sylhet divisions, with a possibility of hailstorms in some places.
Elsewhere in the country, the weather is expected to remain mainly dry with a partly cloudy sky. Day and night temperatures are likely to remain nearly unchanged.
On Sunday, the highest temperature in the country was recorded at 37.7 degrees Celsius in Baghabari, Sirajganj, while the lowest temperature today was 14.9 degrees Celsius in Tetulia, Panchagarh.
The highest recorded rainfall in the last 24 hours, until 6:00 am today, was 18 millimeters in Narsingdi.
In Dhaka, the sun is expected to set at 6:08 pm today and rise at 6:05 am tomorrow.
