All controversial officials to face music: Home Adviser

Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that government officials, including police, involved in criminal activities and controversial actions during the previous Awami League government will be held accountable.

He specifically mentioned the arrest of former National Board of Revenue (NBR) official Matiur Rahman as part of this effort.

The adviser made the warning note while speaking to journalists after visiting the Ansar and VDP headquarters on Wednesday morning.

He also said, “Officials with controversial roles, backed by evidence, are being arrested. Today, Matiur has been apprehended. Slowly but surely, others will also be brought under the law.”

In response to a question, he said that investigations are ongoing, and evidence against individuals, including those who directly committed offenses such as firing on civilians, is being reviewed.

“From constables to deputy commissioners, no one will be spared if evidence goes against,” he said.

The adviser urged the media to provide the list of controversial officials, which he acknowledged has already been partially published.

He assured that the authorities are working to bring all accused under legal action, though it takes time as some are still evading capture.

He also praised journalists for their transparency and for countering misinformation spread by neighboring countries.

However, he encouraged increased investigative reporting to further support accountability.
