Rangpur Riders receive grand welcome in hometown

Rangpur Riders received an overwhelming reception in their hometown on Monday as fans from across the city gathered to celebrate their champions.

The team arrived in two separate groups and paraded through the city, proudly displaying their trophy from the inaugural edition of the Global Super League.

Their victory marked a historic moment for Bangladeshi cricket, as it was the first time a franchise team had secured an international title.

Eager fans flocked from all corners to catch a glimpse of their heroes, creating such a massive turnout that the players struggled to complete their scheduled trophy tour.

Rangpur captain Nurul Hasan Sohan said, "I am overwhelmed by your love. Please pray that I can bring the BPL trophy. Thank you to Bashundhara Group as well."

Riders, who also clinched the Bangladesh Premier League T20 tournament on one occasion so far and carrying that trophy as well along with the GSL cup to show their home crowds, are having a purple patch in the ongoing BPL as they were the first team to reach the playoffs winning all the eight matches they played so far in the competition.

Apart from touring the city with the cup, the franchise is expected to distribute 1500 jerseys to their fans across Rangpur.

Fans will also have the chance to take photos with the trophies. The celebrations will continue with a concert at 3 pm featuring the renowned local band, Avoid Rafa.

Rangpur, who clinched the GSL trophy earlier in December in Guyana, have a few days off before their next match in the Chattogram phase. They will next face Durbar Rajshahi on Thursday
