Fortune Barishal’s strong total seemed enough, but Rangpur Riders claimed a thrilling three-wicket victory in the BPL match at Sylhet International Stadium on Thursday (Jan 9). 

Captain Nurul Hasan Sohan’s sensational batting in the final over helped Rangpur to reach the victory.

Barishal, batting first, posted a challenging 197/5 in 20 overs. Their innings was powered by Kyle Mayers’ unbeaten 61 off 29 balls and a quick 20 off six balls by Faheem Ashraf. Kamrul Islam Rabbi claimed two key wickets in one over, removing Najmul Hossain Shanto (41) and Tamim Iqbal (40).

Chasing 198, Rangpur struggled early, losing Alex Hales and others cheaply. Saif Hassan (37) and Taufiq Khan Tushar (38) steadied the innings before Khushdil Shah (48 off 24) and Iftikhar Ahmed (48 off 36) formed a crucial partnership of 91 runs.

In the final over, Rangpur required 26 runs, and Sohan delivered magnificently. Facing Kyle Mayers, he smashed three sixes and three fours, finishing unbeaten on 32 off seven balls to secure a remarkable victory.

Rangpur Riders remain undefeated, leading the table with 12 points from six matches.
