Workers of Roar Fashion Limited in Bhaluka have besieged the BGMEA building in Uttara, Dhaka, demanding unpaid wages and compensation.
However, following the incident several officials of the garment manufacturers' association could not enter the building on Monday (March 24).
Since morning, the workers blocked the main entrance, preventing officials from going inside. As of 8:30 PM, they were still gathered in front of the building.
Roar Fashion Limited was laid off in January due to financial difficulties. While Tk 7 million was paid for November and December, wages for January and layoff compensation remain unpaid.
Established in 2017, the factory currently employs 1,376 workers.
On Sunday, around 200 workers started their protest in front of the BGMEA building and stayed overnight. On Monday morning, they intensified their demonstration, completely blocking the building.
Turag Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rahat Khan said the workers have been protesting for two days. No untoward incidents have occurred so far, and police have been deployed to ensure security.
