Jhenidah: Reckless driving took another life as a truck ran over a teacher at Barbazar Bus Terminal in Kaliganj upazila on Wednesday morning, triggering angry protests.

The deceased was identified as Shariful Islam, 45, teacher of Belat-Daulatpur Alim Madrasa of Barbazaar.

“While he was crossing the road, a Jhenidah-bound speeding truck ran him down and drove away,” police quoting witnesses said.

Critically injured, he was rushed to Jessore Hospital where he died later on.

The students of Belat-Daulatpur Alim Madrasa blocked the Barbazaar route in an angry protest, halting traffic for an hour.

Officer in Charge of Barbazaar highway police station Paritosh Kunda said,” Police seized the truck but the driver ran away from the spot.”

A case was registered with Kaliganj police station in this connection.
