The government has decided to sell four tonnes of rice per working day instead of three tonnes in 401 upazilas at Tk 30 per kg.

The decision was made to keep rice prices at an affordable level. 

Food Ministry announced this through a press release signed by Public Relations Officer Imdad Islam on Monday (March 24).

The open market sale (OMS) program is ongoing across the country to support low-income people. Rice and flour are being sold at 1,057 centers in city corporations, district headquarters, municipalities, and labor-intensive areas.

In addition to the increased allocation for upazilas, one tonne of rice per working day is being sold in 23 upazilas of the Chattogram Hill Tracts. Nationwide, OMS operations continue through 1,903 centers, where rice is sold at Tk 30 per kg, flour at Tk 24 per kg, and two-kilogram flour packets at Tk 55 each.
