Chittagong: A court here on Tuesday sentenced four people to imprisonment for killing a shopkeeper. The additional metropolitan sessions judge court also fined the lifers Tk. 5,000 each in default, to serve five months more in jail. The lifers are Omar Faruque Rubel, 29, Shankar Dash, 29, Laxman Dash, 31, and Kalaiya Prakash Tipu, 26. All the convicts were present in the court during the judgement.

According to the prosecution, the convicts stabbed Ripon to death on Jan 2, 2002, following an altercation at Ispahani crossing in the city’s Laalkhan bazar.

After examining the records and witnesses, judge Fahmida Kader delivered the judgement in a crowded court. The court, however, acquitted two other accused as their guilt was not proved.
