For the first time, 468 metric tons of potatoes have been imported to Bangladesh via a cargo wagon train from India’s Punjab through the Benapole port.

Parvina Khatun, Assistant Station Master at Benapole Railway Station, confirmed the matter on Friday (Dec 13).

The consignment was imported by Tata Traders, a firm based in Chapainawabganj, Rajshahi, and exported by India’s Atif Export.

The import value of the shipment is USD 107,640.

According to Parvina Khatun, the train carrying 21 wagons loaded with 468 metric tons of potatoes arrived on Thursday night. Once cleared, the train will proceed to Noapara, where the shipment will be unloaded and distributed to markets across the country.
