The government has constituted an 11-member Media Reform Commission, headed by veteran journalist Kamal Ahmed.

The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification regarding this on Sunday.

The commission's members include Professor Dr. Gitiara Nasreen from Dhaka University's Department of Mass Communication & Journalism; Shamsul Huq Zahid, Editor of The Financial Express; Akhter Hossain Khan, Secretary of the Newspapers Owners Association of Bangladesh (NOAB); a representative from the Association of Television Owners; Syed Abdal Ahmed, former secretary of the Jatiya Press Club; Fahim Ahmed, CEO of Jamuna Television and a trustee of the Broadcast Journalism Centre; Jimi Amir, journalist and convener of the Media Support Network; Mustafa Sabuj, Bogura correspondent for The Daily Star; Titu Dutta Gupta, Deputy Editor of The Business Standard; and Abdullah Al Mamun, a student.

The commission is expected to begin its work soon and will gather feedback from all relevant stakeholders before submitting its report to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus within 90 days, as stated in the notification.

The chief and members of the commission will receive salaries and benefits determined by the government. However, if any member chooses to work voluntarily without compensation, they must obtain permission from the chief adviser.

On October 17, the government also announced the formation of four additional reform commissions focusing on health, mass media, workers' rights, and women's affairs.
