Three prison guards have been temporarily suspended and two summoned in connection with the escape of four death row convicts through the roof of the condemned cell of Bogura District Jail.

Jail Superintendent of the District Jail Anwar Hossain confirmed the matter on Thursday (June 27) afternoon.

The prison guards are - Chief Jailer Dulal Hossain, Jailer Abdul Matin and Jailer Ariful Islam. Apart from this, Faridul Islam and Hossainuzzaman has been summoned.

According to Police, the convicts had been planning the escape for a long time. On Tuesday night, they cut the roof of the condemned cell and used a blanket as a ladder to escape. The police apprehended them at a market near the jail at around 4:30 am on Wednesday.

Later, on information the police at 3:56 am, after which all police stations and patrol teams were alerted. The escaped prisoners were captured by a team of police from the Sadar Police outpost and taken to the Detective Branch (DB) office.

Following the incident, the district administration formed a probe committee to investigate the matter.
