Four more people have died from dengue in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 536 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Among the recent deaths, two occurred in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), one in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), and one in Chattogram Division, outside the city corporations.
In the same period, 444 more patients were hospitalized with dengue-related viral fever. Of these, 84 were admitted under the DNCC, while 78 were hospitalized under the DSCC.
As of Wednesday (Dec 11), 1,916 patients are receiving treatment at various hospitals across the country. A total of 97,603 dengue cases have been reported since January 1, 2024.
Last year, the country witnessed the deadliest year on record, with 1,705 fatalities from dengue.
The total number of dengue cases in 2023 stood at 321,179, with 318,749 recoveries, according to the DGHS.
